We delivered the structural design for the new Norfolk Record Office, designed and constructed following the fire damage caused to the Norwich Central Library and Archive Store in 1994.  The new building is a joint project for Norfolk Records Office and the East Anglian Film Archive. It is attached to Norfolk County Hall and our work included alterations to the building to create access between the two buildings.

The substantial, three-storey repository building was primarily for document storage and approaches 15 metres in height. The environmental management system dictated a robust reinforced concrete frame and floor with increased wall thickness to achieve thermal mass.

The adjoining three-storey office building includes areas for public viewing of the archives, as well as extensive conservation and preservation facilities for documents, film and videotape. The project included a sophisticated fire protection system.  Substantial funding was received from the Heritage Lottery Fund .
