New MRI Wing – QEH Kings Lynn
New MRI Wing – QEH Kings Lynn

  • Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation Trust

  • £1.5M approx

This is the second courtyard infill we have undertaken at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital at Kings Lynn.  We were appointed to provide civil and structural engineering services for a single storey light weight steel frame structure to form a new MRI facility within the heart of the hospital.

A key challenge was the restricted site access, extensive existing buried services and tree removal within the courtyard area resulting in complex foundation solutions.  Due to a combination of these issues a mini sectional flight auger piled raft foundation solution was adopted minimising any disruption to the hospital facilities.  The superstructure was designed to allow removal of the roof to allow replacement of the MRI unit in future.

Pre-fabrication was adopted wherever possible to limit noise and minimise the construction programme.

Completion is due early 2012.
